FEWS NET classifications are IPC-compatible, and while these classifications and the underlying analyses adhere to key IPC protocols, they do not always match the results generated by the IPC. (From 2011 to 2015, Outlook reports were issued in January, April, June, and October.) In other ensuing months, developments and changes to the scenario are reported in Food Security Outlook Updates, along with a current situation analysis. These scenarios form the basis of FEWS NET's Food Security Outlook reports, which are currently issued in February, June, and October.

Based on a convergence of evidence, the most likely scenario is projected, and expected levels of food insecurity are classified using the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC). This data is published every month, and the most recent food security classification data can be found at the top of the page. Every four months, FEWS NET analysts use a scenario development process to estimate food security outcomes for the coming eight months.
